Mature enough to Learn?

Do we really think a 20yr old who has completed his 3yr graduation (say B.Sc/BA) is mature enough to absorb, appreciate, critic, comment, develop what would be taught for post-graduation studies ? Don't think so.

Suggestion : Have a compulsory break of at least 8 years before going in for a post graduation study. At this point, also include compulsory courses on humanity and humility. A holistic approach to the subject in concern is highly required at this point to create him a better educated person.

Thoughts?

Well, that's what I did. :)

But actually I think you are wrong here. I know lots of smart twenty year old's who went on to do their PhD's at top universities abroad, and did very well. Of course, they were brilliant students.

In general, I think most 17 or 18-year olds are mature enough to absorb, appreciate,... what is taught to them, if it is in a subject that they are interested and talented in. However, most students fresh out of high school do not really know what they would be interested and talented in. Yes, they might have a vague sense that "I want to be a pilot" or "I want to be a chemical engineer" but without having actually worked as a pilot or chemical engineer, they can't say whether this interest is actually deep enough to last.

And that is an information problem, not one of maturity. There are lots of intelligent and mature folks in their thirties and later, who are also still trying to "find their passion". :)
